Reading on Screen, New Era

Kevin Kelly talks about how the new internet media generation or as he says the "screen generation" triples in the area of reading writing. While it's not on paper its all online. That we do this daily and it's an all-time high compared to decades ago where book used to only come in a handful of publicization and even before that only 1 out of 20 men were able to read and write. Only few were able to read in their own head or even for pleasure. In other terms, Kelly was saying that parents and society express how kids never read and write yet we do it way more daily than any generation ever has before.

Annie Seed explains the science behind things that we have gained or lost from the generation of reading more on media than on paper. In terms she basically explains that the screen generation has gained the ability to scan data, websites, browsing and more, but because we scan and look for keywords rather than completely read a whole article. We instead have

smaller attention spans because of this. We get distracted by the way videos, other links, or even images are attached through out what we read. We match our reading preferences to our phones. We can multitask and do all of these things, but that doesn't mean that we pay attention to all the details and little bits of information. We don't have the "time" to really speeds time on reading whole articles instead we jump around and look for only the important types of things that are essential.
