25 year Bet in Favor For the Optimist

After reading, 25-Year-Old Bet I have come to realize that the old generations that didn't grow up with digital media they weren't very proud or excited about the change into a new era in media. For example, Patrick Sale was more of a pessimist when it came to the new digital era. He was on the verge of saying that society would be in despair. He argues with Kevin Kelly who is the optimist of the duo. He is well aware of all the information that comes with having the idea of new media and the new era. He's an adversary in other terms. He was an executive editor and resident techno-optimist. He thinks that this is a much better society than being like the Amish. He is all for the new generation. He even wrote an article about how "screen time" for the new generation has tripled than it was once before internet and media was a thing.

The chief conflicts between them they are two complete opposites, but the book that Sale's wrote included a massive insult to Kelly in which he felt the need to ambush Sale's and get him to play into his own hands. Kelly came to Sale's, which was the ambush that he planned out, they have a

recorded conversation that is about their opinions and what they think about society with the addition of the internet and social standing of the new generations. Kelly gets Sales to make a bet with how he states that society will have a major downfall as he says that it would be worse than the Great Depression. Sales said that by the year 2020 that our society would essentially go back to the times of feather pens and paper.

The outcome of the bet was that overall, Kelly win's the argument.

This only came down to Economic collapse, Global environmental disaster, and Rich and Poor. Kelly wins economically because looking statistically through where we were currency wise it was still booming especially with Bitcoin skyrocketing during the whole pandemic. Global disaster wise Sale's one because globally wise we've had skyrocketing issues of floods, fires, water rising, etc. Global disaster has gotten worse over the past decade. On the last standing with Rich and Poor, Kelly wins just barely by a sliver.

If you were to ask me what I think about the verdict I would say that I do agree that Kelly should have won, because the bet really was initially speaking about that in 2020 that society wise, we'd be in a worse Great Depression than the one we've already had. In this aspect then I would completely disappear with Sales, because even with the pandemic taking the globe by storm, we still advanced currency wise, and some online businesses skyrocketed. People lost job, but other jobs were also on an all-time high in online aspects. If you were to look at the other things like including Jobs vs Technology increase for the next time this is done, then there might be some sort of tie who knows. With the increase and over all advances that we have every day with technology and AI we might not even have enough jobs to fill for people as our population also increases past the vast majority of jobs that have already been going downhill.
